After spending the day hiking, rafting, biking or any number of other outdoor activities, it doesn’t get much better than being able to enjoy a warm-cooked meal at your camp site. Camping stoves and grills allow you to greatly expand your meal options. While cooking directly over the campfire is great for certain foods, having a quality camping stove allows you to make anything from different meats, to things like pasta, vegetables, bacon, eggs, pancakes, and much more.
Most commonly, camping stoves come with either 1 or 2 burners, and some will be split between a stove and a grill. There are a few different types of stoves, some of which are designed to be almost pocket-sized to easily be stuffed into a backpack.
Camping stoves commonly run on either propane, butane, or Isobutene, and many camping stoves now include an easy push button ignition.
Choosing a camping stove is generally easy, as there are only a couple things to consider. In addition to the cost, the main thing you should keep in mind is whether you will be car camping or backpacking, as you want to take the size and weight into consideration if you are backpacking. Otherwise, you may need to decide if you want 2 burners, or one burner and a grill/griddle side. If you plan on cooking more than one thing at a time (on a stovetop), a 2-burner stove would be your best option. Having a grill built into the stove can come in handy when you are not camping in public campgrounds that have grills readily available.
